The love you didn't get as a JW...
by JH inoften, i hear people say that there is no love in the jw org.
can you give personal examples of this?.
ok, this is your chance to say what "love" you expected from the org.

Gullible or Seekers of Truth?
by acadian in's seekers of truth... gullible...
or do they just close their eyes to the truth ?
considering flip/flops and wrong dates and such... and we still believe...(well not any more!

I was a seeker of truths before I realized that some questions cannot be answered.... but when I believed all questions had to have an answer, JWs provided the binary logic traps which lead to them and no one else which I found no one to challenge. I went to my local library and tried to find anti-JW books which in the early 70s were not abundant... I found a few, but their tone was that JWs were wrong, because we say so and we have been here longer, nyah!
hardly helpful.

Can you solve this paradox?
by Rod P inyou have a bow and arrow.
you shoot the arrow with the bow from point a to point b.. but the arrow will never reach point b, it's destination.
before the arrow can reach point b, it must first travel half way (let's call that point c).. but before the arrow can reach point c, it must first travel half way (let's call that point d).. but before the arrow can reach point d, it must first travel half way (let's call that point e).. do you see the problem?

Why do need to expend energy and my desk does not, when we're both doing exactly the same job? If anyone tells me I'm doing work against gravity, I'll send you to the back of the class with the pointy cap on your head! Work = force x distance, and if I'm holding the briefcase still, I should be doing no work, right? Yet I expend energy to do this no work...
to hold something at arms length and hold it still requires your two sets of opposing muscles to constantly adjust in relationship to each other and that wastes a lot of energy.

WHO IS JOHN GALT? (A survey on Ayn Rand)
by Terry insince its publication in 1957, atlas shrugged has sold more than five million copies.
perhaps a measure of the book's continuing influence may be estimated from the results of a survey conducted jointly by the library of congress and book-of-the-month club in 1991. the survey asked readers which books had made a difference in people's lives.
the results found atlas shrugged placing second only to the bible.

I read Anthem first which is the cliff notes for Altas....
it dramatically altered my conceptions about communism and many other collectivist forms of organization...
however, later reading Atlas, I was struck by her complete rejection of any notion of family...like she was a test tube baby without
a single connection to anyone at all....which explains a lot of her own personal malfunction...
as someone noted her personal life was nothing to brag about.
I have met some hard core RANDroids and they are just as scary as any BORG drone

here is a better paradox
why are things reversed right to left in a mirror, but not up and down?

Actually the paradox as far as I understand is purely linguistic in that it relies on the arrow being at a fixed point at a fixed time and it yet there is no such thing as a fixed time or a fixed point - they are approximations of reality. Just to explain further you can not fix a definite location because logically you could always split your fixed location into further points ergo you still haven't defined the location. What actually happens is a little easier to understand from a zen perspective - the arrow is not separate from its surroundings its movement is merely an interaction between all the elements - same wy it is impossible to define the part of a river you have stepped in since the water flows on, the point of measurement can never be measured the same again.
which brings up heisenberg's uncertainty principle... there are physical reasons why one cannot know the exact location and the exact speed at the very same moment....the better you know one the less you know the other, etc.
and this is as above shows, because we are imposing our measurements upon something which is in motion... there is no time and there is no distance, these are things we invent by our imposition of a grid work upon what we are observing.... the grid work of time is to compare any motion to a clock [which is a cycling event which can be counted] the grid work of distance is any form of measure stick, which of course cannot be subdivided to infinity as there is no way to measure such a subdivision, there are practical, physical limits.
confusing math with geometry is what causes the paradox-- math is abstract and can be divided forever....geometry cannot be divided forever in the real world that we seem to be sharing.

You are the World and the World is You :)
by frankiespeakin ini've read over and over again in mystic writings this basic idea about "oneness" is that "you" are the world, you are making the sun shine,, you are everything and hence the world is you.
everything in space time is an illusion of the mind and thought,,, and that there is this nonfragmentary consciousness of it all, that is nothing like the the fragmentary nature of human thought.

everything leads me back to one view...namely that EVERYTHING I know is within my own mind, thus a direct part of me.
everyone and everything is part of this ONE thing.
I am the dreamer who is at the center of my own dream....and every thing is a part of my dream....
can we all be dreaming the same dream?
each of us seems to me to be like the different programs which can run on a single computer all at the same time... each program has isolated data [its own dream] but each is made of the combination of programs and hardware [the universe and its rules of motion- its true nature]... one universe, many semi-independent programs.... one AND many.....
like the wave and the ocean, not one, not two. [Anthony DiMello]

Do You Still Show Respect To A Person Because Of His/Her Religion?
by minimus injust because a person is a jw, hindu, catholic, a satanist-----does it mean that you think it's ok to be insulting to them?
-
zen nudist
It may come off insulting at times the way I talk about religion and mysticisms of different variety only because
I have come to see them as somewhere between con games and harmful mental infections but I do not mean to insult the person infected (^_^)... and I recognize I may be wrong as well...

splinter groups
by carla ini just received some stuff from macgregor ministries and in a booklet -how to identify a cult- there is a listing of cults.
i found it interesting that there a quite a number of splinter groups from jw's.
as usually jw's boast about 'unity' and husband is always going on about how 'they don't have all these other denominations'.

I've always believed that was the most hypocritical belief of the Dubs. They claim that it is of the utmost importance to use God's proper name, to distinguish him from all other gods, yet they won't use the proper pronunciation
their excuse-- no one knows the TRUE way to pronounce it so we will use the most common Translation-- if the Big G did not give two $#!+$ over his own name's correct translation, why should we? either the whole of the New Test. is FRAUD or the name was never really important to God

Did losing your religion send you into/exacerbate depression?
by SixofNine ini think most of us here agree that our past belief in the jw organization as being god's sole chosen people was delusional on our part.
for myself, when i lost that delusion (fairly abruptly too), i came out of a long period of depression immediately.
while i was incredibly angry at having been decieved, i can't say that that anger translated into any other negatives, in fact, overall, i think my general level of anger, even at elders/the gb/etc subsided, as i now understood why they do what they do even better than they themselves understand it.

when my theological implants failed, I felt a great relief at being let loose from the prison my mind had been trapped in by the JW logic traps I had been infected with:
WE WERE BORG!
